Not All Pregalvanized Tubing Is Created Equal

By Mark Daril

In today's competitive manufacturing environment, choosing the right tubing solution can make the difference between long-term performance and premature failure. While many suppliers offer pregalvanized tubing, not all products are engineered to provide the same level of corrosion resistance, durability, and overall value.

At Lock Joint Tube, we have spent decades refining our manufacturing processes to deliver a superior pregalvanized tubing product that outperforms conventional alternatives. Our approach goes beyond simply applying a clear coat over galvanized tubing. We focus on protecting every critical area of the tube, including the weld seam, while offering customizable coating weights and performance characteristics designed to meet each customer's unique requirements.

One of the most significant advantages of Lock Joint Tube's pregalvanized tubing is our proprietary Lock On Galv® coating technology. Unlike many competitor products that leave weld seams vulnerable to corrosion, our process includes remetalizing the weld seam, providing enhanced protection where rust often begins. We also apply our signature Lock On Galv®clear coat that helps improve corrosion resistance and extends product life in demanding environments.

Independent salt spray testing clearly demonstrates the advantage of Lock Joint Tube's proprietary Lock On Galv® coating technology. Applied to the outside diameter (OD) of the tube, this precision-engineered clear coat provides an additional barrier against moisture and environmental exposure, helping extend service life and enhance corrosion resistance in demanding applications. Just as importantly, Lock Joint Tube protects where corrosion often begins: on the inside diameter (ID). In a 240-hour salt spray chamber comparison, LJT pregalvanized tubing showed less than 1% red rust on the ID, while competitive in-line galvanized tubing exhibited more than 50% red rust. These results underscore the value of comprehensive inside-and-outside protection and demonstrate why Lock Joint Tube delivers superior long-term performance.

For applications requiring even greater protection, Lock Joint Tube offers multiple coating options, including our Weather-Lock system, which has demonstrated more than 8,000 hours before the first signs of red rust in salt spray testing. Whether customers require standard galvanized tubing or enhanced corrosion-resistant solutions, we can tailor the coating system to match the application and environmental conditions.

Our manufacturing capabilities also set us apart. With more than 20 tube mills and over 360 available outside diameters and shapes, Lock Joint Tube provides exceptional flexibility in size, steel grade, coating specifications, and performance requirements. Combined with tight dimensional tolerances and American manufacturing, our customers receive a product engineered for consistency and reliability.

The bottom line is simple: not all pregalvanized tubing is created equal. When corrosion resistance, durability, and long-term performance matter, it pays to look beyond the surface and evaluate how the tubing is manufactured and protected.

At Lock Joint Tube, we remain committed to delivering tubing solutions that are built to last and protected where it matters most. That's the Lock Joint Tube difference.
